Ventana Glass House Artists program
Big Sur is a place that inspires creativity in all forms—it has attracted artists for decades, even centuries. And the art community here is thriving to this day, with galleries dotted throughout the region showcasing paintings, photographs, sculptures, and other pieces that are as interesting and beautiful as the surrounding landscape itself.
Perched 1,100 feet above the majestic Pacific Ocean, our spectacular Glass House Gallery features works from many of Big Sur’s local artists, along with apparel, bath amenities, books, leather goods, local crafts, and other exclusive mementos.
And we are excited to announce our new Ventana Artist’s Series, which spotlights a different artist each quarter and includes special receptions, events, and more. For more information, see the calendar below.
GLASS HOUSE GALLERY

VENTANA ARTISTS SCHEDULE
March 5: Barloga Studios, mixed-media artists
Dennis and Roy Barloga are a father-son team that utilizes both modern printing technology and traditional photographic techniques to make prints on a variety of “unphotographic” substrates.
June 4: Erin Lee Gafill, painter
Erin is an award-winning artist, teacher, and author from Big Sur. Her abstracted landscapes, plein air paintings, and still life paintings are collected internationally.
August 6: Bob Kolbrener, photographer
More than 45 years ago, Bob made a commitment to continue in the Ansel Adams tradition of “straight” photography. He does not use computers or utilize multiple imagery, and there also is no print or negative enhancement. His photos are made using 2¼” and 8x10” cameras and printed the old-fashioned way.
October 1: Doug Steakley, photographer
Doug’s distinct images are truly global. He leads more than 75 photography tours and expeditions in the U.S. and abroad, including destinations such as Yellowstone, Yosemite, Nepal, Iceland, Myanmar, Cuba, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, Namibia, and Mongolia.
